Anthem’s Medicaid Health Plan in Kentucky Offers No-Cost Boys & Girls Club Memberships to Improve Health
and Lives
Anthem provided $35,000 to Kentucky Boys & Girls Clubs in 2015 to promote healthy lifestyles.
Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield Kentucky Medicaid will continue to work with the Kentucky Alliance of Boys & Girls Clubs
in 2016, and offer Boys & Girls Club memberships at no cost to eligible Anthem Medicaid members ages 6-18. Membership benefits
for Boys & Girls Clubs vary by location and typically allow children and teens to go to a Club's drop-in program anytime the
doors are open, including after school and during school breaks. Memberships also enable access to locally available fitness,
nutrition, sports and educational programs and activities. Through these no-cost memberships, Anthem is creating opportunities for
its young members to learn and adopt healthy lifestyles.
“Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield Kentucky Medicaid serves approximately 15,000 children and teens who may be eligible to take
advantage of our Boys & Girls Club membership benefit,” said Cecelia Manlove, president of Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield
Kentucky Medicaid. “We encourage our member families to take advantage of these services and to be proactive in encouraging their
kids to adopt healthy habits. We also thank our Boys & Girls Club partners for helping us build brighter, healthier futures for
our Kentucky youth.”
This is Anthem’s second consecutive year offering no-cost Boys & Girls Club memberships to its eligible Kentucky Medicaid
members. In 2015, the health plan also contributed $35,000 in grants and sponsorships to support Boys & Girls Club programs
that promote health-focused initiatives in communities across the commonwealth.
“Now, more than ever, kids and their families need the programs and services offered by Boys & Girls Clubs across Kentucky,”
said Shelley Douthitt, director of the Kentucky Alliance of Boys & Girls Clubs. “We work to provide a world-class Club
experience that assures that success is within reach of every young person who enters our doors, with all members on track to
achieve our priority outcomes: academic success, good character and citizenship, and a healthy lifestyle. Together with Anthem Blue
Cross and Blue Shield Kentucky Medicaid’s support, we can help more kids on their path to a great future.”
There are three Boys & Girls Club sites in Louisville that are enrolling eligible Anthem Medicaid members at no cost. There
are also four participating Clubs in Northern Kentucky as well as Club sites and programs in Franklin, Glasgow, Harlan,
Hopkinsville, Maysville, Morgantown, Newport, Owensboro Paducah and Vanceburg. To learn more about these Clubs, their programs and
