Baldwin(R) Hardware Launches Design Competition; Encourages Architects, Designers and Students to Submit Bold Designs

Showcases New Reserve Products at AIA Convention 2016

PHILADELPHIA, PA--(Marketwired - May 19, 2016) - Baldwin® Hardware, a leading brand of the Hardware & Home Improvement (HHI) division of Spectrum Brands Holdings (NYSE: SPB), today announced it is seeking entries for a new design competition that pays homage to the company's 70-year heritage of bold moments and looks ahead to what might be the next vision in hardware design. Coined the Baldwin Bold Design Award, architects, designers and students are encouraged to illustrate what they believe to be the next bold hardware design. This can be of any product related to hardware, such as a knob, lever, mail slot, cabinet pull, escutcheon, as well as technologies that might be found in these products. Designs can also include ideas for an entirely new hardware application. There are no boundaries on creativity.

"Baldwin's heritage is full of bold moments. Our founder, Severin Fayerman, survived a concentration camp before coming to America and starting the Baldwin tool company in 1946," said PJ Rosch, brand manager for Baldwin Hardware, Spectrum Brands, Inc. -- Hardware and Home Improvement Division. "We designed the first brass letter slot, delivered custom hardware for Jackie Kennedy in her Martha's Vineyard home and provided the industry's first multiple-patent-protected Lifetime Finish™. This Bold Design Award captures the inspiration from our last 70 years and looks ahead to what's in store for the future."

Three winning designs will be selected: one each from an architect, designer and student. Prizes include $15,000 in Baldwin Hardware and a trip for two to Baldwin's 70 Years Bold Gala for the architect and designer. And a $5,000 cash award for the winning student to use toward his/her education, as well as a trip for two to the 70 Years Bold Gala. All entries can be submitted at www.baldwinhardware.com/design-competition. To learn more, visit the Baldwin booth #4113 at the AIA National Convention 2016. Baldwin is accepting applications through September 15, 2016.

RESERVE COLLECTION
Baldwin will be showcasing new additions to its Reserve collection, including the La Jolla and Santa Cruz handlesets, a crystal knob and a contemporary knob; both of which will include a new push-button privacy feature to enhance egress functionality. The push button feature is now available on all privacy function Reserve knobs and levers. Reserve also introduced a new polished nickel finish to all contemporary and traditional products in the line, which is meticulously crafted from brass and coated with an ultra-hard lacquer making it extremely durable and resistant to the effects of wear and tear. The La Jolla handleset features a minimalistic design with clean lines and crisp straight edges for a contemporary look. Santa Cruz also plays to a contemporary audience with a long profile and smooth lines. The new crystal knob brings brilliant clarity with light-catching crystal, while the contemporary knob features a round shape contrasted with flat edges.

70 YEARS BOLD
In addition to unveiling the new Reserve products, Baldwin has been delighting show goers throughout the year by bringing 70 years of design heritage to life through headpieces and gowns inspired by various Baldwin knobs bringing new meaning to the term "door couture."

"Many people like to say that 'hardware is like jewelry for the door,'" added Rosch. "We prefer to think of Baldwin as a fashion statement for the home; part of your design aesthetic. Baldwin is couture for the door."

To get in on the fun, Baldwin is encouraging show goers to pose with the life-sized replica of a model wearing a Baldwin-inspired headpiece and couture gown. Post the picture to social media with the hashtag #BaldwinDoorCouture for a chance to win one of many $70 gift cards. Baldwin also is giving away five new gorgeous Reserve handlesets. Stop by booth #4113 for a chance to win.
