MetLife Partners with Special Olympics and Habitat for Humanity to Launch First EMEA Community Service Week

MetLife, Inc. (NYSE:MET) today announced partnerships with Special Olympics and Habitat for Humanity that will provide employees across its Europe, Middle East & Africa (EMEA) markets with the opportunity to volunteer in community projects.

MetLife’s 5,000 employees in 26 EMEA countries have been invited to participate in activities with one of the organizations during the region’s Community Service Week, which starts on 23 May. Employees will be able to volunteer at a Special Olympics event to play sports with young people with intellectual disabilities or support local Habitat for Humanity initiatives to build or renovate buildings in disadvantaged areas.

The initiative has been funded by MetLife Foundation, the philanthropic arm of MetLife. MetLife Foundation has a long tradition of supporting initiatives that engage MetLife volunteers in activities that improve quality of life and increase opportunities for the underserved.

Michel Khalaf, MetLife EMEA president and MetLife Foundation board member, said, “We are delighted to be able to partner with Habitat for Humanity and Special Olympics. The idea for Community Service Week came directly from our employees across EMEA and demonstrates their commitment and desire to make a meaningful difference in the communities in which we work. Community Service Week offers employees across our EMEA region an opportunity to support their local communities.”

Mary Davis, CEO Special Olympics, added, “This is a fantastic opportunity for everyone involved to do something to promote respect, acceptance and inclusion for people with intellectual disabilities. Thanks to support from MetLife and MetLife Foundation, this year we have an exciting schedule of events planned and we are delighted by their support for our athletes.”

Greg Foster, vice president, EMEA, Habitat for Humanity International, said, “We are grateful for our partnership with MetLife and the impact its week of service will have in communities across EMEA. With MetLife Foundation’s financial support and the engagement of MetLife EMEA volunteers, we can further our mission to help more families around the world achieve strength, stability and self-reliance through shelter.”
