Google Feature Finally Addressing The 'I Lost My Phone' Problem

GOOG, AAPL

Alphabet Inc (NASDAQ: GOOGL) unit Google is finally taking on Apple Inc. (NASDAQ: AAPL)'s Find my iPhone as it adds "Find Your Phone" feature to the My Account page.

"Find your phone is a new feature that will help you if your phone is ever lost or stolen. In a few simple steps, you can not only locate your phone, but also lock and call it, secure your account, leave a callback number on the screen, and more," Guemmy Kim, Product Manager, Account Controls and Settings, wrote on the official Google Blog.

Kim said the feature can be used to track lost Android and iOS devices, and soon, "you'll also be able to access it by searching Google for "I lost my phone."

My Account, which was introduced last year, is a central hub for people to control privacy and security settings for their various Google accounts, like YouTube, Gmail and Google Maps. It was an effort giving users more control over the massive amounts of data stored with Google.

Sensing that more people are accessing Google's services with voice (mobile voice searches on Google have tripled in the past two years), Google now enables you to get to My Account with your voice.

"In the latest Google app you can simply say, "Ok Google, show me my Google account," and we'll take you right there. This is available today in English, with other languages coming soon," Kim said.

In future, users would be routed to their My Account page once they search their own name in Google. Kim said more than one billion people around the world have used My Account in the past year.
