Pioneering Technology Teams with Siemens to Deliver Energy Efficiency & Fire Safety for Houston Housing Authority

V.PTE

  •  Energy efficiency project included the purchase & installation of 1,339 Safe-T-elements.
  • A U.S. Department of Energy and Housing & Urban Development initiative.

Houston, Texas--(Newsfile Corp. - June 20, 2016) - Pioneering Technology Corp. (TSXV: PTE) (OTC: PTEFF) of Mississauga, Ontario, ("Pioneering"), a technology company and North America's leader in cooking fire prevention technologies and products, is pleased to announce its agreement with the Building Technologies Division of Siemens ("Siemens"), one of the world's leaders in making buildings energy efficient and safe, to help increase energy efficiency and decrease maintenance costs for the Houston Housing Authority ("HHA") - part of a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) and Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) national initiative.

Pioneering's contribution to the project was to provide and install 1,339 Safe-T-element (STE)cooking systems in the HHA's facilities. The installation of the Safe-T-element cooking system both delivers energy savings and protects HHA residents from stovetop cooking fires, the # 1 cause of home and apartment fires. The savings generated from increased energy efficiency and the reduction in cooking fires will deliver a positive return on investment for the HHA.

The HHA has taken progressive steps to improve the agency's energy conservation measures across its public housing communities by taking advantage of federal initiatives, partnering with private companies and local energy providers, with an end goal of recouping millions of dollars in energy costs. Through an energy savings performance contract (ESPC) with Siemens, the HHA is developing and financing installation projects designed to improve energy efficiency and maintenance costs across its facilities. Other facility improvement measures that are part of the ESPC include irrigation upgrades and rainwater harvesting, energy management control systems and HVAC equipment upgrades, domestic water improvements and water heater replacements, lighting efficiency and transformer upgrades, building envelopes, and generators at senior living facilities.

"Siemens is a leader in helping customers achieve their energy efficiency goals and in providing reliable fire protection and detection solutions," said Kevin Callahan, CEO of Pioneering. "Siemens recognizes the added value our products bring to their customers by helping prevent cooking fires and the costs associated with these fires while saving electricity. By saving energy, preventing fires and delivering a return on investment, this product results in a win/win."

Siemens has worked with public housing authorities across the country for many years, providing energy efficiency, fire / life safety, and security solutions for multiple-unit residential needs. As a member of the National Association of Housing and Redevelopment Officials (NAHRO), Siemens is familiar with developing programs that address the market's unique procurement and financing needs yet are compliant with federal regulations. Past successful public housing energy projects involve energy procurement, efficient system design and installation, energy generation, and comprehensive auditing and performance reporting.

Pioneering's products are a requirement for many affordable housing projects in North America and growing in many communities given the easily understood multiple benefits and the positive impact they have on reducing annual operating costs.
