Bonnell Aluminum Updated Statement on Accident at Newnan, Georgia Plant

Bonnell Aluminum, a subsidiary of Tredegar Corporation (NYSE:TG), announced that at approximately 9:15 a.m. on Wednesday, June 29, there was an explosion in the casting area at the Bonnell Aluminum plant in Newnan, Georgia. The plant immediately notified local emergency responders and implemented its emergency response plan, which prompted an evacuation of the plant. A total of five people were injured in the accident. Two were airlifted to Atlanta Medical Center in Atlanta; three were transported to the local hospital. Bonnell is still in the process of notifying all family members, and no names or conditions will be provided until we have received permission.

“Our highest priority at the moment is to ensure that our injured employees receive the care and support they need to recover from this unfortunate event,” said Brook Hamilton, President, Bonnell Aluminum. “We want to extend our thoughts and prayers to all of those impacted by today’s event.”

The explosion took place in a casting area that is separated from the rest of the manufacturing plant. In addition to conducting interviews with those in the area, Bonnell is working closely with local authorities and state regulators to determine the exact cause of the explosion. A structural engineering firm has inspected the entire location and determined that the rest of the plant is structurally sound and safe to operate. Bonnell has made the determination that the casting area will remain shut down until the investigation is complete. The rest of the facility, which was not impacted by the accident, will resume operations starting Thursday morning (June 30, 2016).
