UPS Helps Canadian Businesses and Online Shoppers Get Packages Faster

UPS

ATLANTA, Aug. 18, 2016 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- UPS today announced enhancements on routes from the U.S. to Canada that will help businesses and online shoppers receive their items purchased from U.S. shippers and retailers one day faster.

To facilitate the growing demand of customers who ship to Canada, UPS will enhance its ground network between Chicago and the majority of Quebec and the Maritime Provinces. This will have a positive impact to volume that originates from 114 U.S. cities that flow through the UPS Chicago Area Consolidation Hub (CACH) to Montreal. Some of the U.S. cities include Albuquerque, Dallas, Houston, Minneapolis, Phoenix, Salt Lake City, San Francisco and Seattle.

“Many retailers in the U.S. can now get their items to consumers in Quebec one day earlier and without extra costs,” said Bill Seward, UPS U.S. International President, “Businesses across the Midwest and Western U.S. in all industries can better serve the needs of their Canadian customers by getting their ground shipments delivered one day faster.”

To facilitate the growing demand of customers, UPS brokers over 6 million shipments into Canada each year. With 90% of the Canadian population living within 100 miles of the U.S. border, there is an appetite for American-made products. Canadian e-commerce grew by 17% in 2015 and 62% of Canadians already make purchases from American e-tailers.1

UPS capitalizes on this growth and delivers products to Canadian homes and businesses with UPS Standard®. Transit times vary by origin and destination between 2 and 7 business days.

Canada is the United States’ largest trading partner, with 2015 exports reaching nearly $281 billion and imports at $296 billion, according to recent U.S. Census Bureau data.

From small packages to freight shipments, UPS helps exporters minimize customs holds and manage brokerage fees. UPS TradeAbility® tools help navigate international forms and landed costs. UPS has been operating in the Canadian market for more than 40 years and covers every address in the country.

For consumers, UPS My Choice® provides an email or text message the day before a shipment arrives. If they won’t be home, they can re-route most packages to their workplace, a neighbor’s home or one of approximately 900 UPS Access Point™ locations.

These local businesses, such as grocery stores, have extended evening and weekend hours. Where available, retailers may also send consumers additional messages embedded in the UPS My Choice alert, including loyalty or related products offers. Today, more than 27 million consumers use UPS My Choice around the world.
