MIDLAND, VA--(Marketwired - Aug 23, 2016) - Easi-Set
Worldwide, a subsidiary of Smith-Midland Corporation (DE) (OTCQX: SMID) project updates. The North American network of
licensed producers of Easi-Set all-precast concrete buildings continues to erect projects on pace to eclipse past annual totals.
Here are three of the most recent examples:
GEORGIA - When trying to get away and relax at Georgia's Stone Mountain, no one wants to wait in line to use
the bathroom. At Stone Mountain Park Campground one restroom near the park's check-in area essentially was -- an old, converted
closet. With 431 campsites, 202 full hook-up areas for RVs, 189 partial hook-ups for tents, six yurts and 56 primitive tent
sites, the demand for that bathroom often was high. Park management set out to change inadequate bathroom conditions by adding a
precast concrete multiple-stall restroom, Skyline 1222, from Easi-Set
Buildings. Park officials asked for the restroom to be operational by the popular July 4 weekend, making a fully assembled
precast concrete building the right choice to meet that schedule.
Newnan, Ga.-based Oldcastle Precast, an Easi-Set Buildings licensed producer, manufactured and installed the Skyline 1222
Model Restroom. The Skyline Model is an economical multi-user flush restroom building that is ADA compliant. The Skyline series
are delivered fully assembled, with installed partitions, pre-wired and pre-plumbed. Customization is always a choice for sizes,
finishes and features. For the 12' x 21'6" Stone Mountain restroom, the standard stainless-steel fixtures were replaced with
vitreous china (porcelain) ones, and a shed roof and stucco exterior were customized options. Openings in the walls were added
for the customer to install air-conditioner window units.
Oldcastle was issued a purchase order in April and delivered the building in June. Easi-Set Buildings install quickly, from
taking just hours to a few days based on the site conditions and the size of the structure. This restroom was ready for service
prior to the July 4th weekend.
"We wish the park much success in providing comfort to the campers as they begin their stay at beautiful Stone Mountain Park,"
says Mark Volkmer, the Easi-Set sales representative with Oldcastle.
MISSOURI - "Can you hear me now?" takes on a different meaning when your jobsite spans a 476-acre state park
and there is no cell phone service. The crew for Easi-Set licensed producer Smith-Midland Corp., Midland, Va., overcame this
challenge and successfully manufactured and installed nine Easi-Set Buildings at Echo Bluff State Park in Eminence, Missouri.
Purchased in November 2013, and opened this summer, the new park becomes the 88th in the state. Smith-Midland was called on to
bring needed amenities for park attendees -- quickly and on budget.
The massive scope of this project with nine buildings in a vast terrain presented obstacles from the start. The large number
of crew members had to work fast to meet the park's opening deadline. With the added communication issues, the crews brought
their creativity into play to ensure the schedule and quality of the installations was not affected. To start with, much of the
communication for this project was done after working hours and via email.
"It was an extremely challenging project because when there was an issue, our installation manager had to leave the site and
make a few calls. But we were able to overcome this inconvenience and complete the project on schedule," notes George Sharikas,
sales manager, Utility Products Division, for Smith-Midland.
The nine Easi-Set Buildings have a similar style, with a horizontal lap siding and batten board finish with a simulated metal
roof. The exterior colors are Cedar Wood Brown and Muddy Gray with Montana Moss for the door color. The buildings included: Two
six-stall restrooms; Two chlorination buildings; Three double wet restrooms; One double dry restroom; and One water tank
structure.
The state park was designed to attract everyone from hikers, campers, wedding goers and novice nature lovers. Because of
Smith-Midland's ingenuity and ability to plan for each precast concrete building install while creatively communicating, the park
now is well-equipped for when nature calls.
PENNSYLVANIA - They say it's all in a day's work. For the PECO Gas Works facility in Conshohocken, Pa., it
was all in 90-minutes of installation on a Saturday morning.
PECO needed to replace a 10' x 10' building to hold additional equipment and several hazardous material above-ground storage
tanks, which have a 7,000-pound load when filled with product. To accommodate this, a solid floor section was cast beneath each
tank to support the applied load.
The replacement structure is a 10' x 24' Easi-Set Building with 4"-thick non-insulated walls and a 12"-thick floor slab with a
6"-containment depth covered with 1 1/2"-thick fiberglass grating in the non-storage tank areas. The interior ceiling is 8'. This
building was manufactured by Easton, Pa.-based Easi-Set licensed producer Oldcastle Precast Inc. The concrete exterior walls have
a split face block formliner finish stained with Sherwin-Williams H&C concrete stain. Stainless-steel brackets and hardware
were used to assemble the wall panels because of the corrosive atmosphere.
The building was customized with an exterior stainless-steel ball valve, with a plug cap, to drain the containment area.
Aluminum conduit/piping pass-thru panels were also installed over 1' x 2' wall openings at multiple locations on the
perimeter.
The final installation location laid in very tight conditions between existing structures. Riggers from George Young & Co.,
Philadelphia, together with a crane from Sautter Crane Rental, Philadelphia, were utilized to set the building under the
technical advice of Oldcastle Easi-Set Building Division Foreman Rick Morrison. The building arrived at 7 a.m. and was in place
by 8:30 a.m. Of course many hours of designing, planning, manufacturing, safety meetings and a little more preparation by all the
team players had to happen before delivery and installation. It took all of this to make a 90-minute day of work a complete
success.
