Acquisition broadens company's electronic medical records customer base in Ontario and Atlantic Canada, further advancing
Canada's connected healthcare ecosystem
TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - Sept. 8, 2016) - TELUS Health announced today that it has completed the
acquisition of Nightingale Informatix Corp.'s (TSX VENTURE:NGH) Canadian business operations, including its proprietary
Electronic Medical Record (EMR) software and nearly 5,000 physician customers across Ontario, Western Canada and Atlantic
Canada.
This acquisition includes the transition of 42 Nightingale team members and their collective expertise to TELUS
Health, which will allow TELUS to provide customers with consistent service and a seamless transition.
"Canada has made great strides in the last few years in transitioning from paper to digital in our primary
healthcare clinics, which is where over 70 per cent of patient interactions take place," said Paul Lepage, President TELUS
Health. "We look forward to welcoming a new group of physicians to our community of users, and working with them to unleash the
next stage of healthcare transformation in Canada: the ability to collaborate more effectively with other medical practitioners
by sharing key patient information, and transact electronically and directly through their EMR."
This acquisition and the integration of Nightingale within TELUS Health supports the company's strategy to build a
growing ecosystem of care providers and patients who take advantage of collaborative tools, in support of driving better health
outcomes for Canadians.
"TELUS was the first Canadian company to see the potential of connected health and to act on its vision throughout
the years. With a consolidating marketplace, they were for us the best positioned to continue leading in this space, serve the
customers we've worked so hard with over the years, and ensure they evolve successfully along with Canada's digital healthcare
transformation," said Sam Chebib, CEO, Nightingale Informatix Corp.
"We are thrilled to be joining Canada's largest healthcare IT team. We strongly believe that our clients will
benefit greatly from TELUS' vision and commitment to healthcare in Canada and their wide range of products and services, backed
with a world-class telecommunications infrastructure and culture of innovation," said Alia Mourtada, Nightingale's VP, Business
Development and Strategic Initiatives.
With assets now spanning from coast to coast, expertise, strategic partnerships and a proven track record, TELUS
Health is uniquely positioned to deliver transformational services that scale, including secure communications, ePrescribing,
eReferrals and more efficient coordination and delivery of primary, home and community care.
"Working with TELUS, we'll advance our shared commitment to inter-professional and integrated health services,"
says Adrianna Tetley, CEO of the Association of Ontario Health Centres, which represents the largest group of Nightingale
customers migrating to the TELUS Health platform. "With its strong research and development capabilities, TELUS can take us to
the next level of innovation serving our members with an integrated and bilingual EMR."
