Worst Performing Industries For October 4, 2016

T.FVI, GORO, CMRE, SR


The Dow rose 0.19 percent to 18,288.67, while the NASDAQ composite index gained 0.28 percent to 5,315.93. The broader Standard & Poor's 500 index gained 0.09 percent to 2,163.09.

The worst performing industries in the market today are:

  • Silver: This industry slipped 4.4 percent by 11:00 am. The worst stock within the industry was Fortuna Silver Mines Inc (NYSE: FSM), which fell 10.2 percent. Silver futures dropped 3.5 percent to trade at $18.20 an ounce.
  • Gold: This industry declined 2.5 percent by 11:00 am with Gold Resource Corporation (NYSE: GORO) moving down 16.5 percent. Gold futures fell 2.2 percent to $1,284.20 an ounce.
  • Shipping: This industry fell 1.7 percent by 11:00 am ET. Costamare Inc (NYSE: CMRE) shares dropped 19.2 percent in today's trading. Costamere reported new financing arrangements and decreased its cash dividend from $0.29 per share to $0.10 per share.
  • Office Supplies: The industry dropped 1.2 percent by 11:00 am. The worst performer in this industry was Spire Inc (NYSE: SR), which declined 2 percent.
