(NYSE: CHGG), the Student Hub, today released new polling data of college students that shows students are paying a lot of
attention to the upcoming Presidential election even if they're not very enthusiastic about either candidate.
Students are Paying Attention:
- 65% of college students said they watched the debate
- 67% followed debate coverage on social media
- 56% talked with friends and family about the debate
- 40% listened to the pundits following the debate
- 20% got their debate information from comedy shows
(i.e. The Late Show with Stephen Colbert)
Hillary Won the debate:
- 58% of college students thought Hillary won the debate
- 8% thought Trump won the debate
- 33% were unsure who prevailed
- 27% of students said the debate improved their opinion of Hillary
- 13% of students had a lower opinion of Hillary following the debate
- 5% of all respondents said Trump's performance improved their opinion of him
- 38% of students said the debate lowered their opinion of Trump
- 5% of Trump supporters said their opinion of him worsened with the debate
College Students Favor Hillary Clinton over Donald Trump:
- 48% of college students support Clinton
- 14% are backing Trump
Enthusiasm Gap:
The number of students declaring that they will not volunteer to work for the candidate they support has risen – substantially
for Trump – since August. At the same time, the number of students willing to volunteer for their preferred candidate is unmoved
since August.
- 14% of Trump supporters plan to volunteer for his campaign
- 77% of Trump supporters will not volunteer for his campaign, an increase of 21% since August
- 10% of Clinton supporters plan to volunteer for her campaign
- 70% of Clinton supporters will not volunteer for her campaign an increase of 7% over August
Issues that matter:
- College students continue to care most about Education, Healthcare, and Jobs
- Gun Control, and Police Abuse have risen significantly in importance since May
- College students think Hillary will do the most to help students (54%) vs. Trump (11%)
