Citigroup Inc. (NYSE: C)
TORONTO, Oct. 14, 2016 /CNW/ - CitiFinancial is pleased to be
entering its sixth official year of partnership with Food Banks Canada. This relationship began at a grassroots level in 2006 with
employees participating in volunteer events held at their local food banks, and developed into an official nationwide partnership
in 2010. Since then, CitiFinancial's support of Food Banks Canada has resulted in over 50,000 lbs. of food donations, more than
6,000 employee volunteer hours and almost $430,000 toward the fight against hunger in Canada.
"Each year, when we renew our commitment to Food Banks Canada, we are reminded of the impact that a company like CitiFinancial
can have in local communities across the country," says Scott Wood, President and CEO, CitiFinancial
Canada, Inc. "We support Food Banks Canada because it's a great fit; our nationwide branches are located in the same communities as
many food banks, we're neighbours with the same people that food banks serve and we, like the food banks, believe strong
communities are an integral part of a healthy, prosperous Canada."
CitiFinancial's coast-to-coast food drive, held in support of local food banks, collects thousands of pounds of food each fall.
This year CitiFinancial collected over 15,000 lbs. of food in time for Thanksgiving; using Food Banks
Canada's meal metric, which estimates that 1 lb. of food becomes one meal, those 15,000 lbs. of food could become meals for 15,000
Canadians.
"CitiFinancial has again demonstrated its commitment to relieving hunger in Canada with its
generous donation to Food Banks Canada," said Pam Joliffe Food Banks Canada Executive Director. "Their support ensures we are able
to continue to provide Canadians in need with access to essential food. We are also very grateful for their ongoing support of
local food banks."
CitiFinancial employees volunteer their time at local food banks in support of their communities. Through coast-to-coast
engagement in Citi's Global Community Day (June) and CitiFinancial's 'Feed the Need' food drive (September), CitiFinancial is proud
to continue its tradition of people helping people, because community matters.
