The Dow fell 0.46 percent to 18,078.89, while the NASDAQ composite index gained 0.07 percent to 5,245.51. The broader Standard & Poor's 500 index fell 0.22 percent to 2,136.68.

The worst performing industries in the market today are:

  • Tobacco Products, Other: This industry slipped 2.3 percent by 11:00 am. The worst stock within the industry was Alliance One International, Inc. (NYSE: AOI), which fell 1.4 percent. Alliance One shares have declined 8.01 percent over the past 52 weeks, while the S&P 500 index has gained 6.06 percent in the same period.
  • Home Health Care: This industry declined 1.6 percent by 11:00 am with Surgical Care Affiliates Inc (NASDAQ: SCAI) moving down 2 percent. Surgical Care Affiliates is expected to release Q3 financial results on November 1, 2016.
  • Jewelry Stores: This industry fell 1.5 percent by 11:00 am ET. Commercial Signet Jewelers Ltd. (NYSE: SIG) shares dropped 1 percent in today's trading. Signet shares have declined 44.70 percent over the past 52 weeks, while the S&P 500 index has gained 6.06 percent in the same period.
  • Diversified Computer Systems: The industry dropped 1.3 percent by 11:00 am. The worst performer in this industry was Cray Inc. (NASDAQ: CRAY), which declined 1.6 percent.
