Top Performing Industries For October 27, 2016

HDB, PIPR, BBW, MU


At 10:30 am, the Dow rose 0.08 percent to 18,213.89, the broader Standard & Poor's 500 index moved up 0.10 percent to 2,141.54 and the NASDAQ composite index gained 0.22 percent to 5,261.82.

The industries that are driving the market today are:

  • Toy & Hobby Stores: This industry gained 15 percent by 10:30 am. The top stock within the industry was Build-A-Bear Workshop, Inc (NYSE: BBW), which gained 18 percent. Build-A-Bear reported in-line earnings for the third quarter.
  • Investment Brokerage - Regional: This industry rose 2.7 percent by 10:30 am ET. The top performer in this industry was Piper Jaffray Companies (NYSE: PJC), which gained 11 percent. Piper Jaffray reported Q3 profit of $8.6 million on revenue of $200.8 million.
  • Semiconductor- Memory Chips: The industry gained 1.8 percent by 10:30 am. The top performer in this industry was Micron Technology, Inc. (NASDAQ: MU) which gained 0.8 percent. Micron shares have gained 5.76 percent over the past 52 weeks, while the S&P 500 index has increased 3.56 percent in the same period.
  • Foreign Regional Banks: This industry moved up 0.9 percent by 10:30 am. The top performer in this industry was HDFC Bank Limited (ADR) (NYSE: HDB), which rose 1.6 percent.
