JACKSON, Mich., Nov. 1, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- A manufacturer
from Saginaw, an Isabella County commercial dairy and a hockey
arena in Lapeer are being honored by Consumers Energy for leading by example in using energy
efficiency to reduce their energy use and lower bills.
Consumers Energy's energy efficiency programs have helped Michigan households and businesses
save over $1 billion since 2009, with more than half of the dollars going to businesses.
"Energy efficiency is a powerful tool that any business, large or small, can use to cut its expenses," said Tim Sparks, Consumers Energy's vice president of energy supply operations. "These award winners demonstrate
the variety of ways in which Consumers Energy can help employers find solutions that leave them with more money to put
Michigan residents to work."
Fullerton Tool Co. (Saginaw) was named Industrial Project of the Year for construction
of a new facility with 35,000 square feet of manufacturing and office space in Saginaw's Great
Lakes Tech Park. Fullerton Tool received $26,291 in rebates for its use of LED lighting,
high-efficiency heating and cooling equipment and other equipment that reduces energy waste.
Cow Pleasant Dairy Inc. (Isabella County) was named the Large Business of the Year for
a new dairy facility for its 3,450-cow herd. The facility contains efficient equipment to cool and transport milk directly to
tankers for shipment, fans to cool the animals and LED lighting. Cow Pleasant Dairy, which is located in Weidman, received $117,637 in rebates from Consumers Energy.
Polar Palace Arena Complex (Lapeer) was named Small Commercial Project of the
Year for a project that recovered waste heat energy from the three compressors that cool two ice rinks, and used it to heat water
to fill their two Zambonis, which are used to resurface the ice. By recovering the waste heat, the Polar Palace was able to
eliminate two 100-gallon hot water heaters that were previously used to heat the water. The project qualified for a $3,525 rebate from Consumers Energy.
Consumers Energy, Michigan's largest utility, is the principal subsidiary of CMS Energy
(NYSE: CMS), providing natural gas and electricity to 6.7 million of the state's 10 million residents in all 68 Lower Peninsula
