Cigna Earns Top Marks in 2017 Corporate Equality Index for 5th Consecutive Year

Cigna (NYSE: CI), a health service company, proudly announced that it received a perfect score of 100 on the 2017 Corporate Equality Index (CEI), a national benchmarking survey and report on corporate policies and practices related to LGBT workplace equality, administered by the Human Rights Campaign Foundation. This is the fifth year in a row that Cigna has scored highly on the CEI, and joins the ranks of 517 major U.S. businesses that also earned top marks this year.

“We’re honored by this designation, as we work hard every day to ensure that our workplace is inclusive and welcoming to the LGBT community. We’re committed to helping each member of our workplace use his or her unique gifts and talents to succeed,” said Rosanna Durruthy, Cigna's diversity director. “As well, we recognize the importance of achieving health equity for all the people we serve, including our customers who are transgender, through affordable, culturally competent care that improves their health, well-being and sense of security.”

The 2017 CEI rated 1,043 businesses in the report, which evaluates LGBT-related policies and practices including non-discrimination workplace protections, domestic partner benefits, transgender-inclusive health care benefits, competency programs, and public engagement with the LGBT community. Cigna's efforts in satisfying all of the CEI’s criteria results in a 100 percent ranking and the designation as a Best Place to Work for LGBT Equality.
