ATLANTA, Jan. 4, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Elmer's® has found a
mate for life. The brand, recognized for its kid-friendly and creativity-fueling crafting solutions, today announces its adoption
of Elmer, a Humboldt penguin chick at the Rosamond Gifford Zoo at Burnet Park in Syracuse, NY.
The bond between the penguin and the brand began in early 2016 when zookeepers noticed a crack in the Humboldt penguin chick's
eggshell during incubation. What could have been a life-threatening situation was saved when quick thinking zookeepers mended the
eggshell using Elmer's Glue. In honor of the adhesive that saved his life, the zoo named the chick Elmer.
"We were immediately touched by Elmer's incredible story. We've never thought of Elmer's Glue as a life saver, but we're
thankful that zookeepers had a trick up their sleeves to save little Elmer," said Victor Misawa,
senior vice president of marketing, Writing and Creative Expression, Newell Brands. "We are more
than excited about the opportunity to formally adopt Elmer and support the zoo's nesting burrows exhibit in recognition of the
Rosamond Gifford Zoo's conservation efforts."
"There are just 10,000 to 12,000 Humboldt penguins left in the wild, and thanks to Elmer's Glue-All, there's at least one
more," says Ted Fox, director of the Rosamond Gifford Zoo. "The generous contribution by Elmer's
supports our efforts, and as a result, little Elmer will be taken care of for the rest of his life. We're thrilled to begin this
partnership with Elmer's."
This holiday season, Elmer's introduced the Zoo's visitors to the many creative ways to use their full spectrum of glues and
crafting tools. For example, at the Zoo's annual Breakfast with Santa event, visitors had the opportunity to make a penguin craft
using Elmer's and receive a free bottle of Elmer's School Glue®.
