Box Reimagines Developer Experience for Building Enterprise Applications

Introduces API Navigator, Interactive and Crowdsourced Documentation

Box, Inc. (NYSE:BOX), a leader in cloud content management, today unveiled major updates to the Box Platform developer experience. The updates include a new visual API navigator for developers to explore how Box Platform integrates into applications, new interactive and crowdsourced documentation for the Box API, and the open beta of its new developer console. The company also released updated software development kits (SDKs) for Java, Node.js and .NET.

“Every company today has the opportunity to transform its business with new digital experiences. Box is building a world-class experience that enables developers to seize this opportunity by creating more engaging applications and bringing them to market faster,” said Jeetu Patel, Chief Strategy Officer and SVP Box Platform. “By focusing on the developer experience and innovative new tools, we can help our community build amazing experiences around content that delight users and reimagine business processes in every industry.”

API Navigator

Available today, the new API Navigator enables developers to explore how Box Platform can be integrated into an application through a split-screen view of a sample application. API Navigator shows an example user interface of a web application on one side, and the corresponding API requests and responses in the same window. API Navigator is available here.

Interactive Documentation

Box also announced a new interactive API explorer feature in the Box API reference documentation. The API explorer feature allows developers, when logged in with a Box account, to interact with the Box API right from within the Box API documentation. Developers can now make live API calls using customizable parameters and see responses from the Box API.

Crowdsourcing the Box API Reference Documentation

Box documentation now allows any developer to suggest edits and add additional text and code samples to the Box API reference documentation, which will then be approved by a member of the Box team and published. Opening the documentation will help improve Box’s API documentation, capture additional context from the developer’s perspective, and allow Box developers to support one another when learning how to use Box's API. Community editing is live on the Box API reference documentation site today.

The New Box Developer Console Open Beta

The new Box Developer Console is a complete re-design, and includes a new user interface, guided walkthroughs for configuring applications based on the intended use case, easy access to support resources and reference documentation, and a simple feedback mechanism for contacting members of the Box Developer Relations team. The new Box Developer Console is available today in open beta, and can be enabled on any Box developer account by clicking here.

Updates to the Box Java, Node.js, and .NET SDKs

New updates to the Box SDKs for Java, Node.js, and .NET make it easier than ever before for developers to build enterprise applications on Box. The updates allow developers to interact with any endpoint using an SDK and are available on Github.

“At Box, we recognize that a quality developer experience can make all the difference in helping someone build a truly innovative and exciting new application,” said Ken Yagen, VP of Platform product at Box. “Our community has world-class technical knowledge and by opening up our API documentation to their suggestions and ideas, we can unlock tremendous productivity and help even more developers realize their full potential with Box Platform and beyond.”
