CONCEPTION BAY, NL, March 9, 2017 /CNW/ - Today, Rhonda Nugent received The Co-operators Community Achievement Award for her outstanding community involvement. The award was created to honour Co-operators financial advisors who demonstrate outstanding support for the community in which they work, both through financial aid and volunteerism.

Rhonda Nugent, a Co-operators financial advisor in Conception Bay South, was named the Community Achievement Award winner for the Atlantic region. In 2016, Nugent received the "Bright Business Award" for business start-up of the year. She was recognized by her municipality as excelling in business, volunteerism and activism. Nugent was instrumental in helping raise funds, on behalf of The Co-operators, for the Janeway Children's Hospital in St. John's. In addition, Nugent and her staff donate their time and money to the Conception Bay South "3 Hour Clean-up Challenge," Central Avalon Ground Search and Rescue, Tim Horton's Camp Day, McDonald's McHappy Day, the Canadian Diabetes Association and the Salvation Army, to name a few.

"Community involvement is instrumental for positive growth within your community. Get active! Get involved! Be a positive influence in your community!" said Nugent.

As a co-operative, The Co-operators adheres to the seven international co-operative principles, one of which is "concern for community." The organization's 500 financial advisors are instrumental in converting this principle into action in communities across Canada. Nugent's genuine concern for the well-being of her community, as evidenced by her record of involvement and support for local causes, embodies this principle.
