TORONTO, March 16, 2017 /CNW/ - Drone Delivery Canada Corp.
("DDC" or the "Company") (CSE:FLT), would like to applaud the federal government's announcement today that it will be
taking steps to protect Canadians from reckless drone use by introducing new rules that take effect immediately on the operators
of model aircraft and recreational drones of more than 250 g and up to 35 kg.
The Interim Order, announced by the Honourable Marc Garneau, Minister of Transport, will require operators to not only mark
their drone with contact information, but it will limit them from flying higher than 90 metres, flying within 150 metres of
buildings, vehicles or people, and will establish a 9 kilometer no-fly zone around any airport, heliport, aerodrome or water
aerodrome.
"While these rules will have no direct impact on our business, we support them because they begin to establish ground rules
and allow us to move forward in working with government to establish policies and regulations that keep pace with the progress
being made by the industry," says Richard Buzbuzian, President, Drone Delivery Canada. "Right now
those regulations are lagging behind the progress that is being made. We want to join forces and work together with government so
that we are no longer operating in a regulatory, legal and ethical vacuum."
"We really are at the cusp of an industry that holds out so much promise," adds Buzbuzian, "and I am encouraged that the
government is determined to ensure that it gets things right when it comes to regulating unmanned aerial vehicles – or
drones."
Since 2014, Drone Delivery Canada has been working with government and municipalities to explore the potential of drones in
delivering a robust logistics platform.
In addition to being first to market, in a short time Drone Delivery Canada has assembled some of the leading minds in this
country to develop a commercial logistics platform that can meet government and commercial needs in rural and remote parts of
this country.
