Cypress Expands Family of Automotive Touchscreen Solutions with Industry-Leading Performance

New CYAT8165X Controllers Deliver Best-in-Class Electromagnetic Immunity, Waterproofing and Glove Touch Performance

PR Newswire

SAN JOSE, Calif., March 22, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Cypress Semiconductor Corp. (NASDAQ: CY) today expanded its automotive solutions portfolio with a capacitive touchscreen controller that delivers best-in-class waterproofing, glove touch and resistance to electromagnetic interference. The EMI resistance is driven by Cypress' proprietary AutoArmor™ technology. The new Automotive TrueTouch® CYAT8165X controllers, which target screens up to 8.5 inches, join a portfolio that includes Cypress' Automotive TrueTouch CYAT8168X controllers, for screens up to 15 inches.

"The Automotive TrueTouch CYAT8165X touchscreen controller family delivers a flawless user experience under the broad range of harsh automotive environments in next-generation vehicles," said Dr. Jing Mu, Senior Director of Automotive HMI Marketing for Cypress. "Our TrueTouch solutions combine with Cypress's wireless connectivity solutions and automotive MCUs and memories to form the industry's broadest automotive portfolio, helping our customers to consolidate their supply chains and accelerate their time to market."

Cypress AutoArmor meets car manufacturers' most challenging electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) (CISPR 25) specifications and requirements for chip-level emissions (IEC 61967), conducted (IEC 62132) and radiated (ISO 11452) immunity. AutoArmor uses automatic frequency hopping to prevent false touches caused by EMI from other electronic systems, and it uses TX frequency spreading to reduce electromagnetic emissions. More information on Automotive TrueTouch is available at http://www.cypress.com/automotivetouch/CYAT8165X.

The Automotive TrueTouch CYAT8165X controller family delivers best-in-class accuracy and linearity for fingers of different sizes and gloves of various materials and thicknesses, including ski gloves, and automatically switches between glove and finger tracking without requiring the drivers to switch settings. The controllers include up to 48 I/Os with a host processor interface through I2C or SPI, which help improve touchscreen responsiveness. With Cypress' patented DualSense™ technology to execute both self-capacitance and mutual-capacitance measurements in the same device, the family offers the industry's best water rejection and wet finger tracking for seamless performance in real-world conditions, including the presence of water droplets, condensation, or sweat. The TrueTouch portfolio's unique features are backed by an industry-leading portfolio of more than 200 capacitive touch sensing patents.

Automotive TrueTouch CYAT8165X controllers are based on a 32-bit ARM® Cortex® M-Core processor that is known for high-efficiency MIPS/mW.

Availability
The Automotive TrueTouch CYAT8165X controllers are currently sampling, with AEC-Q100 fully automotive-qualified products expected in the first quarter of 2017. The controllers are available in automotive-friendly 100-pin TQFP packages.
