Peterbilt Model 579 Standard with Bendix Wingman Advanced Safety System

Bendix® Wingman® Advanced – a collision mitigation technology – will become standard on the Peterbilt Model 579, the company announced.

“Peterbilt strengthens its position as an industry safety leader with the adoption of Bendix Wingman Advanced as a standard feature on the Model 579,” said Robert Woodall, Assistant General Manager of Sales and Marketing.

The Wingman Advanced system works in conjunction with Bendix’s ESP® (Electronic Stability Program) and includes in-lane object recognition with alert, adaptive cruise control with braking and collision mitigation braking technology that senses and helps drivers mitigate rear-end collisions.

Following distance and stationary object alerts are part of Bendix Wingman Advanced, which helps increase safety through audible and visual alarms. The safety system will be standard on the Model 579 beginning Q3 2017.

Along with Wingman Advanced, Peterbilt also features the optional Bendix® Wingman® Fusion system, which provides enhanced collision mitigation including stationary object braking, along with integrated alert features including lane departure warning and speed sign recognition. Fusion was introduced on Peterbilt vehicles in 2016.

Both Wingman Advanced and Wingman Fusion help fleets earn a quick return on investment by helping drivers reduce the incidents of rear end collisions. According to Bendix, its driver assistance technologies are designed to complement safe drivers, safe driving practices, and proactive driver training programs, not replace them. Responsibility for the safe operation of the vehicle remains with the driver at all times.
