Barker Minerals Ltd. Update on Cariboo Exploration Projects
Prince George, British Columbia (FSCwire) - Barker Minerals Ltd.
(“BML” on TSX/V) (“Barker” or the “Company”) reports that during the 2016 season it has completed a
number of recon geochemical work and regional evaluation programs on its extensive 100% owned property package in order to
determine which target areas may host the most favorable economic potential.
2016 Exploration
Recon exploration during 2016 included follow up programs of exploratory soil and rock sampling with XRF hand held analysis
where results of previous programs demonstrated above normal levels of base metals and pathfinder minerals for gold and VMS
deposits. Soil and rock collection programs were conducted on the Ace, Frank, Rollie, Mag, QR, Simlock, Doreen and BB East
projects.
The 2016 recon programs were also successful in identifying new target areas for follow up programs and in identifying
extensions to known trends creating a broader database of geochemistry and geology in the various project areas.
Cariboo Regional Outlook
Federal and Provincial Government geological, geochemical and airborne geophysical programs, together with Barker’s
exploration results to date, have helped enhance and affirm the Cariboo regions potential for district size gold and base metal
potential. Barkerville Gold Mines (BGM TSX-V) and Spanish Mountain Gold’s (SPA TSX-V) ongoing exploration activities over the
past few years have produced significant positive results which also confirm the district scale potential.
Barkerville Gold’s exploration programs continue to yield extremely positive results which include an announcement on October
4, 2016 of the identification of a major 60 kilometre gold bearing structural break which is open to the east from the western
boundary of Barker Minerals Simlock Gold project. http://www.barkervillegold.com/investors/news/barkerville-identifies-60-kilometre-long-gold-bearing-structural-break
Barkerville Gold Mines quote from October 4, 2016 news release:
“The Company’s recently acquired, proprietary high resolution magnetics and electromagnetics survey collected over the
entirety of the extensive 2,119 square kilometer Cariboo Gold Project combined with field mapping and sampling, has now
conclusively determined the existence and location of the newly named ‘Cariboo Break’ which has been traced for more than 60
kilometers. The Break is interpreted as a major deep-seated shear which appears to have focused gold mineralization along its
length. The Cariboo Break is manifested as a well constrained magnetic depression coincident with the auriferous soil anomalies
generated from the 2016 regional exploration program and also the mine trend on Island, Cow and Barkerville Mountains.” Historic
regional geological mapping and data compilations crudely indicated the existence of the Cariboo Break, but poor outcrop exposure
throughout the area precluded an irrefutable, empirical interpretation of its occurrence until now.” end quote.
Past exploration from Barker Minerals and the Provincial and Federal Governments on the Simlock and Ace projects have
identified a geological setting very similar to the Barkerville area and to that of the recently announced “gold bearing
structural Cariboo Break”.
The Yukon, which has similar geology as the Cariboo gold district, recently had media reports state that a number of Major
Mining Companies were buying out the most advanced projects and/or were getting well positioned in the Yukon’s premier gold
districts. As the awareness of the significant potential of the historic Cariboo mining district builds and interest
returns from the mining and investment communities towards junior exploration companies it is anticipated that eventually similar
interest will occur in the easily accessible Cariboo gold fields in mining friendly Central BC.
Details of the various programs and results by Barkerville Gold Mines and Spanish Mountain Gold are available in news releases
on their respective websites.
