3D Systems Chooses ThingWorx Platform from PTC to Enable Smart, Connected 3D Printers

ThingWorx IoT Platform to Monitor 3D Printers for Remote Service and Maintenance; LiveWorx Event to Feature Several Demonstrations of Technology

PTC (NASDAQ: PTC) and 3D Systems Corporation (NYSE: DDD) today announced that 3D Systems has selected and plans to embed the ThingWorx ® Platform from PTC into its 3D printers, enabling intelligent monitoring and remote service and maintenance.

3D Systems provides a comprehensive portfolio of solutions and services for digital design and manufacturing, including both plastic and metal 3D printers. As part of a focused plan to make 3D production real, the company is enhancing its ecosystem of software and hardware to meet production customer needs for end-to-end manufacturing workflows.

3D Systems plans to enable its 3D printers with the ThingWorx Platform and remote services, designed to maximize printer availability and productivity. The planned solution will give customers the ability to create real time dashboards to monitor their printers, providing valuable insight and actionable intelligence into the printers’ utilization and materials status. The integration will also provide 3D Systems with visibility into the service requirements of the printers, enabling the company to remotely diagnose and, in some cases, remotely service the printer, enabling faster repairs and further gains in overall machine productivity.

“We believe the capabilities enabled through ThingWorx technology can help us deliver the machine uptime required in production environments,” said Carol Zampell, vice president, software, 3D Systems. “This will enable our customers to gain a distinct business advantage through improved resource utilization, business insight, and overall gains in productivity.”

3D Systems previously announced the integration of its 3D Sprint™ SDK with Creo® design software from PTC to enable seamless CAD-to-print functionality, as well as a full set of print management tools.

“PTC has a long-standing relationship with 3D Systems, and we are excited to continue expanding the collaborative and innovative work by enabling their printers to be smart, connected products,” said Mike Campbell, executive vice president, ThingWorx Platform, PTC. “We support their vision to the business value and opportunity that exists in 3D printing as an industry, and the power the IoT can have in driving that further.”

During this week’s LiveWorx technology conference and marketplace, attendees can experience the combined capabilities of 3D Systems and PTC technology. The event, which showcases solutions engineered for a smart, connected world, will take place in Boston from May 22-25. Register to attend or watch the live steam at www.liveworx.com.
