MONTREAL, June 15, 2017 /CNW Telbec/ - In conjunction with
Global Wind Day, Boralex Inc. ("Boralex") (TSX: BLX), ENERCON and the Six Nations of the Grand River Development
Corporation celebrated the inauguration of the Niagara Region Wind Farm (NRWF) this afternoon in the presence of Michael Weidemann, Executive Vice-President of ENERCON Canada, Matt Jamieson,
President and CEO of the Six Nations of the Grand River Development Corporation, and Patrick
Lemaire, President and Chief Executive Officer of Boralex.
The wind farm, which is located on private land in the Regional Municipality of Niagara in Ontario, was commissioned on November 2, 2016 and consists of 77
ENERCON E‑101 wind turbines with a total installed capacity of 230 MW. The project has a 20-year power purchase agreement
with Ontario's Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO) and will power the equivalent
of more than 76,000 homes per year throughout its operating life.
At the inauguration ceremony Mr. Lemaire praised the exceptional collaboration between Boralex, its partners, the local
municipalities and their citizens. "This project was signed, built and commissioned within two years as a result of outstanding
teamwork, which fills me with pride. The acquisition of the project, which we completed in January, represents the largest
transaction in Boralex's history and has enabled us to raise our contracted capacity target to 2,000 MW by 2020."
"I am extremely proud of this project being completed not only under the leadership of ENERCON, a first for our company here
in Canada, but in record time. We share a long and fruitful history with Boralex, which lays an
encouraging groundwork for our future collaborations," said Michael Weidemann, Executive
Vice-President of ENERCON Canada.
"We are pleased to collaborate with partners who share the same vision of a bright and sustainable future for our coming
generations. The shift to green energy is an ambitious goal which we, and our partners Boralex and ENERCON, are excited to
work together to achieve," said Matt Jamieson, President and CEO of the Six Nations of the Grand
River Development Corporation.
To mark the occasion and celebrate Global Wind Day, a public open house was held on the wind farm site, offering local
residents in the region the opportunity to see the facilities up close, meet the project team, and learn more about wind
energy.
