MEDNAX Announces Acquisition of Maternal-Fetal Medicine Practice in Tennessee

MEDNAX, Inc. (NYSE:MD), today announced the acquisition of Greater Nashville Perinatology, PLC, a private maternal-fetal medicine physician practice based in Nashville, Tennessee.

Established in 2009, Greater Nashville Perinatology employs one physician, seven sonographers and five non-clinical associates. The practice specializes in care for expectant mothers, including those with high-risk and complicated pregnancies, by providing consults, various diagnostic testing including percutaneous umbilical blood sampling (PUBS), ultrasounds, genetic counseling, inpatient services, and deliveries. Greater Nashville Perinatology has three patient offices located in Smyrna, Franklin and Nashville and provides services to TriStar StoneCrest Medical Center, Williamson Medical Center and TriStar Centennial Women’s Hospital.

“As we adapt to the changing healthcare landscape, partnering with MEDNAX’s national network will allow us to continue to focus our efforts on providing quality ultrasound services and excellent personal care for our patients,” said Michael DeRoche, M.D., who will serve as medical director for the practice. “In addition, MEDNAX’s extensive research, education and quality initiatives will support our desire to positively impact the development of the perinatal and neonatal episode of care model and improve ultrasound quality throughout Tennessee.”

This acquisition adds to the services MEDNAX provides in Tennessee through its affiliated network of physicians across multiple specialties which include anesthesiology, maternal-fetal medicine, neonatology, newborn hearing screens, obstetric hospitalist, pediatric cardiology, pediatric hospitalist, pediatric infectious disease, pediatric intensive care, pediatric surgery, pediatric urology and radiology.

This was a cash transaction and it is expected to be immediately accretive to earnings. No additional terms of the transaction were disclosed.

With this acquisition, six physician group practices have become part of MEDNAX in 2017.
