One Week Left to Nominate Deserving Utah High School Students for Sallie Mae’s $25,000 College Scholarship Program

Deadline for Utah School Counselors and Community Leaders to Nominate High School Juniors and Seniors for Bridging the Dream Scholarship Program is Sept. 7

One Scholarship Winner Will Be Selected from Utah

Attention Utah school counselors and community leaders: the deadline to submit nominations for Sallie Mae’s $25,000 Bridging the Dream Scholarship is quickly approaching. Five finalists will be selected, including one from Utah, and high school counselors and community organization leaders have until Sept. 7 to submit nominations.

The ideal candidate should be a high school junior or senior who excels in academics, athletics, community service, or school activities, but whose financial circumstances may not permit him or her to pursue a college education. The online application asks nominators to highlight their nominee’s personal and academic achievements and any major life challenges.

“We are committed to helping aspiring young people reach their potential, and the Bridging the Dream Scholarship Program is a key part of that effort,” said Paul Thome, president, Sallie Mae Bank. “Last year’s recipients inspired us with their personal stories, passion for education, and perseverance. I look forward to awarding a college scholarship to one of Utah’s own students this year. Utah-based counselors and community leaders, please nominate your deserving high school junior or senior today!”

Last year’s Bridging the Dream Scholarship Program recipients had their futures transformed after they each received $25,000 from Sallie Mae. Quinton Lopez, Kayla Pinzur, and Bryana Blanco have since completed their freshman year and all three proudly earned 4.0 GPAs. Lopez is currently attending California State University and plans to pursue a degree in medicine. Pinzur attends Northeastern University and is pursuing a degree in physical therapy, while Blanco is enrolled in the nursing program at the University of South Florida. In addition, scholarship recipient Kendal Cooney started college this fall and is studying nursing at the University of Toledo.

Ends Sept. 7, 2017, at 11:59 p.m. EDT, or when 1,000 eligible entries are received. Void where prohibited by law.
