Western Union Supports Mexico Earthquake Relief Efforts

Company Offers Fee-Free Money Transfers and with the Western Union Foundation Provides US $30,000 to Save the Children Foundation in Mexico

The Western Union Company (NYSE: WU), a leader in global payment services, today announced a multi-faceted response along with the Western Union Foundation, Western Union employees and its Agents, in order to provide support for communities in Mexico affected by this week’s earthquake.

  • Fee-Free Money Transfers: Western Union is offering $0 fee* money transfers to senders in the U.S., at participating Western Union® Agent locations, for cash payouts in Mexico D.F., Morelos, Puebla, Oaxaca and Chiapas** until midnight September 27. To be entitled to the $0 fee*, a ‘disaster relief pricing - earthquake relief option’ should be requested.
  • Western Union Foundation: The Western Union Foundation is donating USD $30,000 to Save the Children, one of the foundation’s disaster relief partners. The donation includes a USD $10,000 contribution from the Western Union Foundation, plus a USD $10,000 contribution from El Alamo, a Western Union Agent, and USD $10,000 matching funds from the Western Union Foundation to match El Alamo’s contribution.

    The Western Union Foundation will provide a dollar-for-dollar match of qualifying contributions from Western Union Agents, business customers and other business partners to NGOs providing disaster relief support in the impacted region. Western Union employee contributions toward relief efforts will also be matched 2:1, up to USD $25,000.
  • Consumer Red Cross Donations: Consumers can also make fee-free donations to the Red Cross in Mexico at Western Union® Agent locations in the US through December 31, 2017. To donate, complete the blue Payments section on the Western Union form, using “Mexican Red Cross” as the Pay To recipient; “REDCROSS DC” as the Code City, along with “Mexico Earthquake Relief” in the Account field.

“Our thoughts are with everyone who has been impacted by this disaster. We will continue to engage with our NGO partners to support relief efforts around the world that help people and communities recover and rebuild, as well as increase their preparedness for future emergencies,” said Western Union Foundation Executive Director Elizabeth Roscoe.
