PG&E Named by LATINA Style as One of the 50 Best Places for Latinas to Work in the United States

For the seventh time, Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) was recognized as one of the companies providing the best career opportunities for Latinas in the United States by LATINA Style Magazine. This was the 20th annual LATINA Style 50 Report, considered as one of the most respected evaluations of corporate America’s career advancement opportunities for Latinas.

Companies acknowledged in the report were evaluated based on what LATINA Style Magazine readers feel are most important in the workplace, including:

  • Number of Latina executives
  • Retention
  • Mentoring programs
  • Educational opportunities
  • Alternative work policies
  • Employee benefits
  • Career development
  • Affinity groups
  • Hispanic relations.

“We are honored to be recognized by LATINA Style Magazine as one of the best places in the country for Latinas to work. By providing meaningful opportunities in energy for Latinas and others with a diversity of backgrounds, we’re able to generate more innovative ways to serve our customers and communities well into the future,” said PG&E CEO and President Geisha Williams, the first Latina CEO and President of a Fortune 500 company.

“PG&E has one of the most diverse customer bases among energy companies in the United States. In order for us to serve our customers and provide the best possible products and services, our workforce should reflect the communities we serve,” said Laurie Giammona, a Latina who has served as senior vice president and chief customer officer of PG&E since 2014.

“At PG&E we value an inclusive and diverse workforce because it allows our employees to bring their whole selves to work and to unleash their full creative potential every day,” said PG&E Senior Vice President of Human Resources and Chief Diversity Officer Dinyar Mistry.

One way PG&E supports Latina employees is through its Latino Employee Resource Group (ERG). Founded in 1983 as the Hispanic Employees Association, the ERG started with a small group of employees. Today, membership has grown to more than 770 with seven chapters throughout the company’s service area. This year, the Latino ERG chapters awarded $60,000 in college scholarships to students.

The 2017 LATINA Style 50 Report honor marks the seventh straight year, 11th overall, PG&E has been recognized by the publication. Besides this year, PG&E was named as one of the LATINA Style 50 companies in 2002, 2003, 2004, 2011, 2015 and 2016. In addition, the company received honorable mention from the report in 2010, 2012, 2013 and 2014.

The LATINA Style 50 companies will be recognized next February during the 20th Anniversary LATINA Style 50 Awards and Diversity Leaders Conference in Washington, D.C.
