Borqs Debuts Pet Tracker Based on Qualcomm's Latest Wearable Platform

IoT Leader Launches First NB-IoT Tracker Solution for Pets

PR Newswire

SAN DIEGO, Calif., Nov. 9, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Borqs Technologies, Inc. -- a global leader in embedded software and products for the Internet of Things (IoT) -- is pleased to announce its newest pet tracker device. Debuted at last month's Asia Pet Exhibition and co-marketed with pet company Daodao Dog, the product utilizes Qualcomm's Snapdragon 1200 Wearable Platform and is the first NB-IoT (NarrowBand IoT) tracker solution for pets.

"We are so excited to introduce our new pet tracker product as part of our growing wearable portfolio," said George Thangadurai, EVP and president of international business at Borqs. "With Qualcomm's newest chipset platform, we are able to introduce intelligent wearable solutions that allows users to locate, track and protect pets that carry the device."

In addition to accurately locating a pet's position and generating a pet trajectory, the pet tracker can also set a secure safe zone and send an SMS, email or system push warning if the pet crosses the zone's boundaries. The tracker is also low-energy -- a single charge of the battery can support up to three weeks of use. In low consumption mode, the device has a battery life of up to many months. The broadcast tracker also supports multiple bands, including the NB-IoT 850MHz B5 band and 900 MHz B8 band. When the pet environment is unable to reach the NB-IoT band, the tracker will automatically switch to 2G network mode, to ensure that the tracker remains online at all times.

"The beauty of this new technology is that it is not only limited to pet tracking," continued Thangadurai. "From monitoring physical locations to providing physical condition analysis, there are a myriad of uses for families, doctors, enterprises and more."

In addition to providing tracking for pets, the device can also provide users with location tracking services for children and the elderly. The highly-scalable technology can easily communicate with other IoT devices and network solutions, and can be used as real-time supervision of armored vehicles, prisoners and police cars.
