Fastest result ever recorded as more Canadians connect to Bell's all-fibre network

MONTRÉAL, June 20, 2018 /CNW Telbec/ - Bell Canada today announced it has taken the top spot in PCMag's "The Fastest ISPs of 2018: Canada," delivering the highest overall Internet speed index ever recorded in Canada to date by the magazine and scoring more than 30% higher than our nearest competitor.

Atlantic Canada's Bell Aliant also took second place in the speed tests while Manitoba's Bell MTS moved into the top 10 for the first time. PCMag's conclusions were based on nearly 12,000 tests of Canadian Internet service providers large and small between September 2017 and June 2018.

"Bell's strategy to lead investment and innovation in Canada's next-generation broadband networks is delivering the best Internet experience to both consumers and business customers," said Rizwan Jamal, President of Bell Residential and Small Business. "With the fastest connections today and the capacity to deliver the virtually unlimited broadband speeds of the future, Bell's pure fibre network offers Canadians access to the best Internet technology in the world."

Bell Fibe Internet service now offers symmetrical downloads and uploads of up to 1 Gigabit per second (Gbps) and is ready to deliver speeds of 40 Gbps and beyond in future. At more than 240,000 total kilometres, Bell's fibre connections are Canada's most extensive by far, linking homes and business throughout the Atlantic provinces, Québec, Ontario and Manitoba.

With super-fast speeds and low latency, Bell's fibre network significantly enhances the video streaming and gaming experience and enables high-bandwidth cloud computing and other business applications. Fibre connections also drive innovations like Bell's Whole Home Wi-Fi service, which brings the smartest and fastest Internet access to every room of the home, and the latest advances in television with Fibe TV and Alt TV.

Bell all-fibre cities now include St. John's, Gander, Summerside, Charlottetown, Halifax, Sydney, Moncton and Fredericton in Atlantic Canada, Québec City, Trois-Rivières, Saint-Jérôme and Gatineau in Québec, Cornwall, Kingston, Toronto, North Bay and Sudbury in Ontario, and Steinbach and The Pas in Manitoba, with more locations to be announced in 2018. Bell unveiled its Montréal fibre project in 2017 and is rapidly expanding direct fibre connections throughout the GTA/905 region surrounding Toronto and extending to the US border.

Bell now serves more than 9.2 million homes and business locations with fibre to the neighbourhood, including over 3.7 million locations with the fastest fibre to the premises (FTTP) connections – a total expected to grow to 4.5 million by the end of this year.

Investing more than $4 billion each year in Canada's next-generation network infrastructure, Bell delivers world-class fibre connections for both residential and business customers, Canada's Best National Mobile Network with Bell LTE, the country's largest network of state-of-the-art data hosting and cloud computing centres, and leadership in the fast-growing Internet of Things (IoT) marketplace.
