Zillow Group Updates on The Home Project and Announces Additional Community Partners

Z

The Home Project aims to help individuals and families facing housing insecurity in cities across the country

PR Newswire

SEATTLE, Aug. 6, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Zillow® Group, Inc. (Nasdaq: Z and ZG), announced progress on The Home Project – the company's social impact program focused on helping individuals and families who are housing insecure – as well as additional Community Partners.

Recent completed projects include:

  • Irvine: During Zillow Group's bi-annual Hack Week, where employees work on projects outside of their day-to-day work that they are passionate about, a five-person team volunteered to work with Habitat for Humanity of Orange County to redesign their WordPress website. The team created a shareable redesign, which allowed more than 1,300 other Habitat for Humanity branches to use the template for their own sites.
  • Seattle: One of Zillow Group's Community Partners, Downtown Emergency Services Center (DESC), has long struggled with their IT infrastructure – which included week-long outages forcing entire departments to work remotely. To cut down on these disruptions, DESC moved their desktop infrastructure from a locally hosted server to the cloud and needed help getting their 600+ employee set-up for the transition. Zillow Group employees came together to support the transition, including staging their administration office and helping to distribute 200+ new machines in the case management office.
  • Seattle: Zillow Group employees produced two videos to tell the story of Aurora Commons , a space that provides neighbors – whether they are homeless or not – a place to find community, a cup of coffee, express themselves creatively through art, support for challenges they face, and more. The videos will be used to promote the space throughout the community.
  • New York: Seven Zillow Group employees hosted a pre-K graduation at the Sumner Children's Center, a pre-school run by the Brooklyn Kindergarten Society – an organization that provides family services to working families in low-income neighborhoods throughout Brooklyn. After the ceremony, which included spirited songs and a display of the children's counting skills, the students, families, and teachers enjoyed cake, ice cream, and lemonade, and each child received a backpack from Zillow Group that included two children's books that were inscribed with their names and a special sticker to commemorate their graduation.

In four cities, the Seattle-based company announced Community Partners. Community Partners are non-profit organizations whose missions align with The Home Project. Each Community Partner receives $25,000 in cash as well as in-kind contributions that range from employee volunteer time to product development to donated ad slots, and more.

  • Cincinnati: Zillow Group selected Over-the-Rhine Community Housing (OTRCH) as its new Community Partner. OTRCH is a non-profit community development organization that provides a wide spectrum of affordable and supportive housing options with holistic services that support residents with low-incomes.
  • Denver: As an integral part of the fight to end homelessness in Colorado, HomeAid Colorado is Zillow Group's new Community Partner. Their mission is to build new lives for homeless families and individuals through housing and community outreach. They develop, build, and maintain homes, apartments, facilities and shelters to give Colorado's homeless a place to call home.
  • Lincoln: Matt Talbot Kitchen & Outreach is a non-profit organization with a vision to defeat hunger and homelessness and restore hope and has been selected as Zillow Group's Community Partner in Lincoln. The organization serves the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of Lincoln's working poor and homeless through outreach, advocacy, education, and the provision of food and shelter.
  • Vancouver, B.C.: Covenant House provides love and hope to Vancouver's homeless and at-risk youth. The nonprofit helps youth aged 16 to 24 who have fled physical, emotional and/or sexual abuse; those who have been forced from their homes; and those who have aged out of foster care.

The Home Project is Zillow Group's signature social impact program that aims to address challenges around housing insecurity. Zillow Group envisions a world where everyone—regardless of economic circumstance—has access to the resources that can help them find a place to call home.
