DigitalTown, Inc. announces changes and improves services

DGTW

SEATTLE, Aug. 22, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- DigitalTown (OTC:DGTW), a pioneer in the use of blockchain-based technology and decentralized applications for Smart Cities that are designed to keep business local, announces important changes intended to improve and simplify the product offering for the benefit of customers.

Adopting a mobile-first approach, all city websites powered by DigitalTown – including Austin.City, SanAntonio.City and My.Miami – are replaced by the free DigitalTown App for iOS and Android. DigitalTown participating merchants, who receive a free storefront, will be able to manage their DigitalTown storefront via the web and mobile Business Tools. In addition, the two million users of other DigitalTown City Apps, namely London and Amsterdam, are invited to migrate to the main DigitalTown App as the company consolidates and streamlines its product offering.

CityShares are removed from the DigitalTown portfolio with immediate effect. CityTokens are renamed Community Points and are gifted for engagement with the in-App Community Tools, which feature local discussions, projects, events, calendar and fundraising. While bearing no monetary value, the blockchain-based Community Points can be exchanged with participating DigitalTown merchants at their discretion. In turn, participating merchants can use the Community Points they collect from customers to support marketing campaigns within the DigitalTown ecosystem.

DigitalTown CEO, Robert Monster, comments: “Having reviewed the DigitalTown ecosystem and after listening to feedback from our growing customer base, we are consolidating and simplifying our product offering to provide our customers with an improved, streamlined service. As adoption of the DigitalTown solution gathers momentum in Austin, Texas, market validation shows that our users spend more time on mobile than on web. The removal of CityShares from the product portfolio clarifies the confusion experienced by some customers regarding CityShares and CityTokens.”

“CityTokens are renamed Community Points to better reflect the philosophy behind the DigitalTown reward system. We believe in rewarding people for doing good in their community. Every time someone engages with our Community Tools by starting or joining a discussion, providing a blog relevant to their local community, initiating a project for the benefit of the community and even fundraising to support projects, we allocate Community Points directly to the user’s DigitalTown SmartWallet. We do not assign any value to these points. Community Points may be exchanged with participating DigitalTown merchants, at the discretion of individual merchants. A participating restaurant might decide to accept Community Points in exchange for an appetizer when a customer orders a bottle of wine with their meal, for example. The restaurant could then use the points to support a marketing campaign within the DigitalTown ecosystem to boost its rankings in our local-first search function,” adds Rob.

The migration of the city platforms powered from DigitalTown to the DigitalTown App takes effect August 31, 2018, with all other changes effective immediately.
