ATLANTA, Nov. 14, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- LexisNexis® Risk Solutions, a pioneer in the social determinants
of health (SDOH) arena will participate in a key thought-leader panel discussion, "Beyond Risk Adjustment: The Role of Quality
Measurement in Improving Access and Reducing Disparities," Nov. 15 at the Pharmacy Quality Alliance
(PQA) Social
Determinants of Health Forum: Exploring Medication Access and Quality, in Alexandria,
Virginia. LexisNexis has been collaborating with the PQA for nearly two years to highlight the impact social determinants
of health (SDOH) have on patient health outcomes.
The panel will feature experts from across the healthcare industry, who will speak to important considerations such as:
- the impact of social determinants on quality;
- the utility of risk adjustment within quality measurement;
- how patient-centric measure development can impact health disparities; and
- how quality measures can improve healthcare access and equity.
Erin Benson, director of Market Planning at LexisNexis Risk Solutions, will share remarks that
highlight how social determinants of health improve the industry's ability to improve patient care by offering a lens into risks
unseen.
"Insights gained from social determinants of health scores and other predictive models give pharmacists and providers a more
holistic view of their patients," Benson said. "They can make better-informed decisions and be proactive in performing
consultations and prescribing treatment that will work well within a patient's dynamic life. They can also encourage patient
engagement in improving health outcomes."
"When talking about social determinants of health, there still is a lot of education that needs to happen across the
industry," said Josh Schoeller, senior vice president and general manager, Health Care, LexisNexis
Risk Solutions. "There tends to be general agreement that data analytics can help achieve better treatment outcomes, help reduce
readmissions and help improve medication adherence – and social determinants are critical ingredients to realizing this. Social
determinants of health and the innovative data analytics that support their effectiveness are playing a key role in the care of
patients."
Dr. David Nash, professor of Health Policy, and Dean of the Jefferson
College of Population Health, will moderate the panel. Benson's fellow panelists will include:
- Keri Christensen, director, Research Innovation, National Committee for Quality
Assurance
- Eric Gascho, vice president, Policy and Government Affairs, National Health Council
- Lynn Pezzullo, RPh, senior director, Quality Innovation, Pharmacy Quality Alliance
The panel is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. ET. Members of the media can arrange to speak with
Ms. Benson through the LexisNexis contact below.
