Sound Community Bank CEO Laurie Stewart Named Community Banker of the Year by American Banker

SFBC

SEATTLE, Dec. 10, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Laurie Stewart, President and CEO of Sound Community Bank, was named Community Banker of the Year by American Banker magazine.

“I am honored and humbled by this recognition,” said Stewart. “I have a passion for banking and appreciate the many things banks do for our communities. It’s one of the reasons I chose to get involved at a regional and national level when it comes to governance, regulatory reform, and bipartisan development of good public policy.”

Each year American Banker names bankers deserving of the title for a wide variety of reasons. These include growth, creativity, impact, and strength among other traits and accomplishments.

Stewart celebrates 29 years with Sound Community Bank this December. In these years, Stewart led the conversion of the organization from a $38 million credit union to a $720 million publicly traded commercial bank. She has a long history in community banking and participation in industry affairs. Stewart serves as Chair Elect of the American Bankers Association. Recognized by American Banker as one of the Most Powerful Women in Banking in 2011, 2015, 2017 and once again in 2018, she served as Chair of the Board of Directors of the Washington Bankers Association (WBA) and is incoming Chair of the Board of Directors for the National Arthritis Foundation. Stewart is a frequent speaker at conferences and colleges locally and nationally, and has testified in both Washington DC and Olympia, Washington on a variety of legislative and regulatory financial issues. She helped create the WBA’s Executive Development Program which is now in its eighth year of existence. Stewart is one of 14 bankers selected to serve on the inaugural FDIC Advisory Board and subsequently the CFPB Advisory Board.

Sound Community Bank is a full-service bank, providing personal and business banking services in communities across the greater Puget Sound region. The Seattle-based company operates banking offices in King, Pierce, Snohomish, Jefferson and Clallam Counties and on the web at www.soundcb.com.
