Spectra7 Demonstrates Low Latency Error Free Performance with Mellanox at DesignCon

Achievement Doubles the Reach of Passive Cables - Enabling Low Latency Rack-to-Rack Connections at 100Gbps

Spectra7 Microsystems Inc. (TSX:SEV) (“Spectra7” or the “Company”), a leading provider of high-performance analog semiconductor products for broadband connectivity markets, demonstrated that it has achieved robust error free performance with Mellanox ConnectX-5 network adapters configured for Ethernet low latency CA-N transmission. The demonstration included Spectra7 enabled active copper cables (ACCs) up to 5m in length, which is more than double the length of passive direct attach cables (DACs) that are available for these demanding applications.

Currently, only DAC cables with a maximum length of approximately 2m can achieve the CA-N specification and requirements. Longer DAC cables require Forward Error Corrections (FEC) which increases the latency by up to 120ns per connection in each direction.

The IEEE 100G CA-N specification was created to enable the lowest latency server-to-server connections for demanding deep learning and artificial intelligence applications. For the first time, these connections can now span multiple racks, enabling larger radix switches and more efficient and faster computations.

"Mellanox is a market leader in high performance networking," said Spectra7 CEO Raouf Halim. "Demonstrating this benchmark on their equipment is a significant achievement and will accelerate adoption of our technology in this rapidly growing market."
