Aqua America Joins CDP Ranking for Environmental Stewardship Efforts, Ranking Among Top 40 Percent of U.S. Companies

Aqua America Inc. (NYSE: WTR), the second-largest, publicly traded water and wastewater utility based in the U.S., has reinforced its commitment to environmental stewardship by joining the CDP, an international not-for-profit organization that runs a global disclosure system for companies to manage their environmental impacts.

The CDP, which aggregates reporting from more than 1,000 U.S. companies and 7,000 companies globally, provides a benchmark to compare progress towards environmental stewardship against peers, in order to continuously improve climate change governance and best practices.

For 2018, Aqua’s first year on the CDP list, the company ranked among the top 40 percent of U.S. companies in terms of its understanding of climate change impact on business and the positioning of senior leadership to oversee key environmental issues.

Aqua’s Chief Environmental Officer Dr. Christopher Crockett says the company’s efforts are motivated by a strong sense of responsibility to the environment and future generations.

“As one of the largest water utilities in the nation, we provide our customers and communities with a life-sustaining resource – water,” said Crockett, a professional engineer. “We feel deeply that it’s our duty to conduct business operations in a sustainable, responsible way to protect the water we provide and all natural resources. We are proud to join the other environmentally-focused companies ranked by CDP and remain steadfastly committed to continued improvement.”

Aqua has taken a deliberate approach to sustainable business practices with the 2018 release of its inaugural corporate sustainability report and reporting on the company’s efforts, from reducing energy consumption to lowering greenhouse gas emissions.
