MONTRÉAL, Feb. 11, 2019 /CNW Telbec/ - Bell is deeply saddened by the death of the Honourable Michael Wilson, PC CC at the age of 81. A role model for leaders in Canadian business, politics and the community, Mr. Wilson was a pioneering champion for mental health and a close partner in the Bell Let's Talk initiative.
Embracing the mental health cause like no leader before him, Mr. Wilson was an early inspiration and advisor in the development of Bell Let's Talk. He delivered the opening address for the launch of the initiative in 2010 and continued to support Bell Let's Talk as it grew into one of Canada's most influential and effective community investment programs.
"Michael Wilson was a trailblazer in the fight against the stigma around mental illness, a champion for those who struggle and an advocate for care and research programs that have made a real difference in people's lives," said Mary Deacon, Chair of Bell Let's Talk. "As we extend our heartfelt condolences to Mr. Wilson's family and countless friends, we honour the memory of an unparalleled leader in Canadian mental health."
The Bell Let's Talk mental health initiative is focused on 4 key action pillars: Anti-stigma, Care and Access, Research and Workplace Leadership. Since its launch in September 2010, Bell Let's Talk has partnered with more than 900 organizations providing mental health services throughout Canada, including support for grassroots and community initiatives and major donations to hospitals, universities and other care and research organizations.
