Today, Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) along with Edison Electric Institute (EEI) and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW), will celebrate lineworkers across its service area as part of National Lineworker Appreciation Day.
National Lineworker Appreciation Day honors the life and work of Henry Miller, the first president of IBEW, as well as the nation’s more than 74,000 electrical lineworkers who often take themselves away from their families and friends to serve their customers and communities.
“PG&E lineworkers complete their jobs during extreme conditions – from winter storms to summer heat – high above the ground using their technical expertise and skills to keep the lights on for our customers every day. If you know a lineworker or see one in the field, make sure to thank them, especially today,” said Michael Lewis, PG&E senior vice president of electric operations.
At PG&E, there are thousands of lineworkers who help deliver daily reliable service to more than 16 million customers across Northern and Central California. Lineworkers range from apprentices to journeymen and work in small crews or on their own completing jobs ranging from maintenance to emergency repairs.
PG&E is saluting Gwenda Webster who was terrified of heights as a little girl, and is now celebrating 40 years as PG&E lineworker this month. And the Contreras family, three generations of lineworkers at PG&E who have seen many changes over the years, but say the camaraderie is what makes their job so special.
Check out what it is like to be a lineworker on PG&E’s Instagram https://www.instagram.com/pacificgasandelectric/ where the lineworkers have taken over for the day and make sure to #ThankALineworker on any social media platform today.
