Federal Communications Commission Designates Twilio As Member of Re-Chartered North American Numbering Council

TWLO

SAN FRANCISCO

Twilio will collaborate with industry to advise the FCC on U.S. phone number administration, how numbers are assigned, the functions for which phone numbers are to be used and by whom

Twilio (NYSE: TWLO), the leading cloud communications platform, today announced that it has been appointed by the U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to the re-chartered North American Numbering Council. The North American Numbering Council (NANC) is a Federal Advisory Committee that was created to advise the FCC on numbering issues in the United States and to make recommendations that foster efficient and impartial number administration. The NANC is composed of representatives of telecommunications carriers, regulators, cable providers, VoIP providers, industry associations, vendors and consumer advocates.

Twilio will be represented on the NANC by Rebecca Murphy Thompson, head of Communications Policy, Global Public Policy and Government Affairs: “Twilio is honored to be appointed to such an important advisory committee. As a member of the NANC, Twilio will have the opportunity to help shape policies on important issues such as illegal robocalls and access to phone numbers. In a world where people are increasingly conducting the daily functions of their lives on their mobile devices, Twilio’s work with NANC will hopefully help to restore trust in the communications ecosystem. We look forward to working with our fellow council members and the FCC to maintain and strengthen the telecommunications landscape in the United States for the benefit of businesses, organizations and consumers alike.”

The first meeting of the re-chartered NANC will be held on Monday, Dec. 16, 2019 in Washington, D.C. The FCC’s announcement and a listing of all of the NANC members can be found here.
