GE

BOSTON

GE (NYSE:GE) today announced that its Board of Directors will nominate former U.S. Secretary of Defense Ashton (Ash) Carter to the GE Board, for election at the Annual Meeting of Shareholders on May 5, 2020.

GE Lead Director Thomas Horton said, “Ash brings unrivaled expertise in international affairs, technology, security, and government to the Board. He led significant operational reforms at the Department of Defense—the largest employer in the world. He will be a tremendous addition to the Board as we serve customers across the globe.”

GE Chairman and CEO H. Lawrence Culp, Jr. said, “Ash is a globally respected leader well-known for his disciplined and fact-based approach to management. He brings the perspective of our customers, particularly in aerospace and government, directly onto our Board, and his experience assessing and navigating changing geopolitics, markets, and industries will make GE more prepared and agile for the future.”

Mr. Carter, 65, served as the U.S. Secretary of Defense from 2015 to 2017, and previously served directly and indirectly under 11 Secretaries of Defense in both Democratic and Republican administrations. Outside of government service, he has also served in the private sector and held teaching and leadership roles at Harvard University, Stanford University, and Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He currently serves as the Director of the Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs at the Harvard Kennedy School.

Mr. Carter serves on the board of Delta Air Lines. He holds a B.A. from Yale University and a PhD from Oxford University, where he was a Rhodes Scholar.
