NEW YORK, NY / ACCESSWIRE / January 13, 2025 / PowerSchool recently disclosed that it suffered a data breach that compromised the sensitive personal data of students, parents, and teachers. This data breach has led to concerns over the security of sensitive personal information entrusted to PowerSchool.
WHAT'S THIS ABOUT?
PowerSchool recently disclosed that it suffered a data breach between December 22 and December 28, 2024, that involved unauthorized access to individuals' sensitive personal information through PowerSchool's customer support portal, PowerSource. In response, PowerSchool launched an investigation to determine the nature and scope of the data breach. PowerSchool's investigation determined that an unauthorized third-party gained access to PowerSource using compromised credentials and stole sensitive personal data belonging to students, parents, and teachers at certain school districts in North America.
Upon information and belief, the following types of sensitive information may have been compromised as a result of the data breach: name, address, Social Security Number, educational information, and medical information.While PowerSchool has not officially concluded its investigation of the data breach, upon information and belief, PowerSchool has and will continue to notify impacted school districts by providing a communications package that includes outreach emails, talking points, and FAQs to help inform teachers and families about the incident.Compensation may be available for those individuals who received notice that their personal information was compromised.
