Compass Gold (CVB) has completed an expanded drilling program at its 867-square-kilometre Sikasso property in southern Mali.
The work was focused on the Samagouela and Tarabala prospects, which sit within the property's Kourou permit.
41 air core holes were drilled at Samagouela over a total of 1,901 metres as well as one reverse circulation hole to a depth of 52 metres. Two distinct gold structures were targeted, with 2,504 samples sent for analysis, 795 of which have already been received.
The widest mineralisation occurred in drill hole KOAC48, which intersected 17 metres at 0.04 grams per tonne of gold.
At Tarabala, Compass Gold drilled 30 air core holes over 1,505 metres and two reverse circulation holes over 186 metres. A total of 1,780 samples were collected, all of which remain pending.
Ground geophysics were also completed on eight out of 12 target areas, and the results from 482 in-fill shallow soil samples are yet to be received.
Larry Phillips, CEO of Compass Gold, noted that the program forms part of the company's broader 17,000-metre campaign that will continue into the first half of 2021.
"The small sampling of initial results we've received so far has confirmed the presence of the mineralisation and quartz vein structures that we have been looking for," he added.
Compass Gold said it expects to carry out more drilling, as well as induced polarisation geophysics and geological mapping, over the coming weeks. This work will be informed by the results from the recently completed program, and is expected to begin in mid-January once the necessary pads have been prepared.
Compass Gold is currently down 6.67 per cent to C$0.21 per share at 1:46pm EST.
