TAG Oil begins drilling its first horizontal well in Egypt

TAG Oil (TSXV:TAO) has begun drilling its first horizontal well, BED4-T100 in the Badr Oil Field in the Western Destert of Egypt.

In a news release, the Vancouver-based company said drilling is currently through a depth of 600 metres and is targeting oil in the Abu-Roash F carbonate reservoir to a projected total vertical depth of 3,300 metres.

The drilling program marks a milestone for the company’s operations and goals of unlocking the ARF reservoir’s potential in the Badr Oil Field.

TAG Oil said the T100 well design includes a vertical pilot assessment well for potential coring, open-hole logging, formation imaging, pressure measurement and fluid sampling, followed by cement plug-back of lower vertical pilot hole and whip-stock drilling of build and lateral horizontal sections in the ARF reservoir.

The company anticipates that the T100 well will be completed by calendar Q4 2023, and will use the well’s performance to base planning and execution of future drilling. TAG Oil said it anticipates to begin drilling by Q1 2024.

TAG Oil is an oil and gas exploration company with a focus on operations in the Middle East and North Africa.

Shares of TAG Oil are down 1.75 per cent to C$0.56 as of 9:45 a.m. ET.
