Bombardier (TSX:BBD.B) and Wichita State University are teaming up to train the next generation of mechanics.

Bombardier is collaborating with the university’s Campus of Applied Sciences and Technology (WSU Tech) on an apprenticeship program aimed at training future airframe and powerplant.

During the two-year program, students will complete hands-on training at Bombardier Group’s Wichita site and in-class courses at WSU Tech.

Students who complete the program will obtain their Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) airframe and powerplant certification, while getting on-the-job training.

With an eye on expanding the technician roster, their job classification will transition from apprentice to full-time airframe and powerplant technician at Bombardier.

Based in Montreal, Bombardier is a global leader in the design, manufacturing and servicing of business jets. The company has a global fleet of approximately 5,000 aircraft in service across multinational corporations, charter and fractional ownership providers, governments and private individuals. Bombardier aircraft are also deployed in defense roles across the globe.

Bombardier stock closed up 5.55 per cent to trade at C$52.83 per share. The stock is down by 12.08 per cent since last year but has gained 2,013.2 per cent since 2019.
