Evans will step down from his role as of May 1, having assumed the role of CEO back in 2018. Since then, he has assisted the company in strengthening its balance sheet, improving efficiencies and reshaping the company’s long-term strategy.

I look forward to the opportunity of working with all our stakeholders to realize the true long-term potential of MEG,” Gates said in a statement.

Gates will also be nominated for election to the board of directors at the company’s annual general meeting slated for May 7.

MEG is an energy company focused on sustainable in situ thermal oil production in the southern Athabasca oil region of Alberta.
