SPARC AI Inc. (CSE:SPAI; OTC:SPAIF) announced Tuesday that it has created and launched a application that takes control of the Parrot ANAFI USA drone’s flight management and navigation systems.

The SPARC AI app, which houses the SPARC AI proprietary algorithms and software, is installed on the drone’s controller and allows a user to fully navigate and take geospatial recordings of distant objects.

In a news release Tuesday, SPARC AI stated that extensive testing has shown the location of points of interest can be determined without relying on GPS. The video below shows one of the test flights.

“Our engineers have demonstrated the portability of the SPARC AI software, having successfully installed it on several types of microchips, mobile phones and now on a highly sophisticated drone. Our ability to use a drone to identify the location of any points of interest without relying on GPS, internet or the support of special sensors is a significant milestone for the company.” SPARC AI’s chief executive officer, Anoosh Manzoori, said in a statement.

SPARC AI will release a commercial model to allow users to download the SPARC AI app onto their drone’s controller on a software-as-a-service (SaaS) model.

The company stated it wants to enable the drone to fly autonomously without GPS, which could have implications in commercial and defence industries. The autonomous flight will be activated via the SPARC AI app on the drone’s controller and sold under a SaaS model. SPARC AI states that its microchip installation on the drone will allow it to fly completely autonomously with no communication with the controller and rely solely on the AI algorithms and SPARC AI for navigation and decision making.

SPARC AI has developed and patented the Spatial Predictive Approximation and Radial Convolution. The company is developing a range of geospatial products using its core IP and is integrating these into a microchip to allow customers to activate SPARC AI on any of their camera devices, including drones.

Shares of Sparc AI Inc. (CSE:SPAI) were unchanged, trading at C$0.195.
