MDA Space (TSX:MDA) was awarded a contract to provide antenna systems for three satellites for geostationary orbit.

The technology provider to the global space industry was contracted by SWISSto12 to provide antenna systems for three of its HummingSat satellites, which will be deployed as part of the Inmarsat-8 program to provide crucial safety services and support advances in emergency tracking.

Under the contract, MDA Space will design and manufacture high-performance L-Band navigation antennas, utilizing their advanced products already used in various global navigation and Mobile Satellite Service missions. MDA Space will also develop and implement innovative packaging concepts necessary for the GEO SmallSat platform.

SWISSto12, one of Europe’s rapidly growing aerospace firms and a leading manufacturer of satellite and radio frequency products, was chosen in 2023 to develop three Inmarsat-8 satellites. These satellites will enhance network resilience and support Inmarsat’s global L-band safety services.

This is the second contract for MDA Space in the GEO SmallSat market with SWISSto12.

“MDA Space has an established reputation for leveraging our best-in-class design and manufacturing capabilities to support safety critical missions and we look forward to working with SWISSto12 to extend these capabilities,” Mike Greenley, MDA Space’s chief executive officer, said in a statement. “Our track record of delivering on multiple constellation missions to both government and commercial partners positions us to further capitalize on repeat orders in this growing GEO SmallSat market.”

The antennas will be built, assembled and tested at MDA Space’s satellite production facility in Montreal.

MDA specializes in robotics, satellite systems and geointelligence for the global space industry with a track record spanning more than 55 years and more than 450 missions.

MDA Space (TSX:MDA) opened trading at C$15.27 per share, and its stock has risen 33.07 per cent since the year began.
