So the major mining companies are left in the precarious situation of replacing high grade mines with low grade ones. This means they have to build bigger to maintain the same production, which is more expensive. Either way, production is going to fall off and the gold price will have to go up. This is precisely what Barrick Gold Corp. (TSX: T.ABX, Stock Forum) (NYSE: ABX, Stock Forum) CEO Jaime Sokalsky said at the recent LBMA Investment Conference in Hong Kong.
