Buzz on the Bullboards: Cannabis Poll Results!

While not all investors have joined the party (yet), the new, legal cannabis sector is generating tremendous enthusiasm among the investment community. But “cannabis” is becoming an increasingly broad industry, with new applications and markets opening up on nearly a daily basis.

This begged the question: which niches of the cannabis sector are currently most attractive? For an answer, we came to you: the largest Community of small-cap (cannabis) investors in Canada. Here are the results for our latest Investor Pulse Poll.

There is a lot about these final numbers that should fascinate investors. But it’s also been interesting watching the voting play out over the two weeks that we have had this poll posted on the Stockhouse homepage.

Cultivation jumped out as the early leader, with close to a quarter of initial respondents singling out this niche as their favorite. But other categories have since gained ground.

For those cannabis investors who truly have their fingers on the “pulse” of the cannabis industry, it won’t be a big surprise to see edibles/infusion rise to first place in the final results. There have been some major deals centering around cannabis-infused beverages, with the Constellation Brands strategic investment in Canopy Growth attracting the greatest amount of attention. However, a plethora of news releases have come out in this area from dozens of cannabis companies as they position themselves for a pending new cannabis market in Canada – and an already-existing market in several U.S. states.

Then we get to perhaps the biggest surprise. Cannabis “capital/financing” was your second favorite niche in the cannabis sector. In terms of the number of companies populating this sub-sector, capital/financing offers a fewer number of investment options than most of these other sub-sectors. Yet this is a very popular niche with Stockhouse’s cannabis investors.

The other surprise to this poll is how evenly divided this Community is regarding opportunities in cannabis. Behind edibles/infusion, there was nearly a three-way tie for second spot. Even the sub-sector that drew the fewest votes (clinics and data) attracted close to 10% support. That’s a substantial number in a poll giving respondents six different options.

What this says to cannabis companies is that virtually all niches of the cannabis sector are currently well-supported by Canadian (and U.S.) investors.

That’s the headline for this week (for those investors who are not attending today’s Stableview TECH 18 event in Toronto). Now we’re going to burrow a little deeper into cannabis sentiment at Stockhouse.

Our starting point is a quick look at the most popular cannabis stocks on the Stockhouse Bullboards. Big numbers and familiar names here – except for the last company in this week’s Top-6, Aleafia Health Inc. (TSX: V.ALEF, OTCQB: ALEAF, Forum).

What’s up with ALEF? A quick glance at the chart answers that question – the share price.

On September 10, 2018; Aleafia closed at $1.04. By September 26th, ALEF hit $4.63, one of the stronger runs since the New Cannabis Rally began. The stock has since pulled back to just under $3 and Stockhouse investors are congregating to assess these developments.

This leads to something new that we want to start doing on Buzz on the Bullboards: bringing you some “buzz” directly from our Bullboards. Here are a few opinions from the cannabis space. [Editor’s note: the comments below were chosen at random and are not intended in any way to reflect overall sentiment for these companies. As with any stock there are both bullish and bearish opinions among the investing public.]

Aurora Cannabis Inc. (TSX: ACB, OTCQB: ACBFF, Forum) October 1, 2018

trendstr: RE:RE:$12.80

It is an interesting, harmless and today positive point. And by the way, the volume in Germany is over 1.1 million. That is significant and indicates that there is increasing demand for Aurora in Europe which can only help the stock price here in Canada.

That’s a tiny glimpse of some of the investor sentiment from just a few of the many cannabis Bullboards (companies) that have attracted strong hubs at Stockhouse. But as we’re regularly reminding investors ourselves, there are many other sectors, companies, and opportunities for which investors also need to be vigilant.

For starters, there is a new rising star in the resource space: Royal Nickel Corp. (TSX: RNX, OTCQB: RNKLF, Forum). The RNX Bullboard wasn’t simply the leader as top resource stock among our Bullboard leaders. It was #2 over the past week among all Stockhouse Bullboards – including cannabis.

For investors new to this Company who want to find out what is generating a “buzz” here, the 3-month chart paints a pretty clear picture. Here’s a resource stock that went from $0.10 to $1.15 in two weeks – more than a ten-bagger.
